Karma Reef Resort

Your Magazine Guide to Gili Islands

Reef encounters…

Karma Reef Resort is truly one of the gems in Gili Meno’s crown. The unique beach resort opened in 2014 and has been extremely popular ever since – a trip over to the quietest of the three islands made it pretty easy to see why…

We met with Sabine, Marketing Manager of Karma Reef Resorts, who took us on a tour of paradise. Set directly on a white pristine beach are seven sumptuous sea-tents and seven impressive Lumbung Villas. The cool airconditioned sea-tents are a Balinese version of festival glamping with luxurious interiors, delightful touches and spa-like adornment. A bubble of opulent bliss.

The two-storey, traditional-style Villas are equally beautiful in their decoration, so it’s no surprise the resort is highly regarded by honeymooners and couples indulging in romantic getaways.

Picture your dream accommodation and you are probably incredibly close to what Karma Reef Resort offers. With aircon, WiFi, TVs and hot water, your stay will be far beyond ‘comfortable’. The rooms are well appointed, combining Western facilities with the Indonesian charm that visitors to the island love so much. Patios with swinging chairs make the perfect spot to curl up with a book and indulge in some ‘me time’. The location, of course, is instantly one of our favourite aspects of this resort. ‘You’ll wake up to the sound of the ocean and the sunrise’, Sabine smiles, as though we need any more persuading.

Moving, somewhat reluctantly, from the luxury of the rooms, we discover the more social areas of the resort. We are equally wowed! The sun loungers are dotted along the beach and spacious brugges are available for guests to loll around in.

The Lumbungs have a small kitchen area, but there is also an on-site restaurant that serves up delicious Mediterranean-inspired food by Chef Wayan Edi Supatra of Bali. ‘Succulent grilled octopus, crispy squid, fresh seafood, tuna tartare bruschetta, delicately fried salty haloumi with capers and tasty sliders are some of the delectable dishes created by Chef Wayan. ‘Fresh seafood, which comes straight out of the ocean is prepared every single day’, Sabine explains. If you prefer a liquid diet, head to their new Tiki bar and indulge. ‘You can get fresh, healthy juices… and cocktails’, she laughs. It is a holiday resort, after all…

Guests who want to enjoy the ultimate indulgence can take a short walk to the day spa. Sheltered from the sun in another tent, the spa is fitted with fans and aircon to keep you cool and comfortable while you unwind. With massages on offer, as well as manicures and pedicures, Karma Reef Resort knows exactly what every heart desires.

For those seeking activities, a prime turtle-spotting point is found just out front of the resort. Guests rent snorkelling gear and can explore on their own or try stand-up paddling or spend some time sightseeing on bicycles around the island. Sabine sums up, ‘We also organise day trips, diving trips and we even facilitate horse-riding trips… Basically, anything our guests want!’.  The team at Karma Reef Resort are dedicated to providing an experience of a lifetime!
