Spending just a few minutes with Janset in candid discussion about her beginnings as a child of refugee parents, it dawns on you fairly quickly that you are in the presence of a very special soul. Beautiful in spirit, intriguing in character, animated when discussing her passions and occasional flicker of a shadow as she recalls her past and her journey to Gili Air as owner of the renowned Mexican Kitchen.

Born in Istanbul and of Turkish descent, one is curious as to how she became the successful owner of the The Mexican Kitchen. It starts to make sense as Jansets story unfolds.

Traditional Mexican cuisine is complex and flavours are layered with some dishes using up to 60 ingredients.

Jamu Recipe by Mexican Kitchen

4 fingers of fresh turmeric
1 small piece of ginger
1 small piece of tamarind (optional)
150 ml of honey
1 liter freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice
A few black peppercorns

1. Clean all ingredients such as turmeric and ginger.
2. Blend all ingredients for five minutes.
3. Keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
4. Best consumed freshly made.
